VHS

Hayley found the old VHS tape left on the kitchen table with a note on it written in her missing husband’s handwriting. It said, “I’m sorry.”

Using an old camcorder was definitely on brand for her husband, who was into retro things. And figuring out the old VCR was a challenge for her, but she eventually did it.

Inserting the tape, she was a little surprised that the video was of a woman, one who looked very scared.

“This is probably going to be hard to believe,” The woman on the tape said, “But it’s me, Mike, your husband. I don’t know how this happened to me; I don’t know why I’m in this body. They want to study me. They’ve already taken my phone. I don’t know how else to get you this message. I hope you can figure out the old VCR. I don’t know if I will ever be back -- if they will ever LET me come back. But know that I love you, Hayley...”

Despite the fact that she didn’t recognize the person on the tape, the patterns of her voice were unmistakable. Somehow that was Mike. He was still alive; he was taken; he was...somewhere.
