The Island

Ever since entering the lobby of the island resort, Ingrid had been mostly focused on her larger male body with its hairy arms and rough hands. But, of course, her husband had changed genders, too. She had mostly ignored him so far, yet she soon began to notice how comfortable he seemed to be with being transformed into a woman.

“He’s probably just adapting fast,” The lobby clerk said to Ingrid seeing her concern, “The magic of the island doesn’t just swap your gender on a superficial level, it transforms your very beings. Notice how your clothes changed, too? And your luggage? You’ll experience most of your entire vacation as though you were born the opposite gender. Even your mind will adapt with altered memories. Sometimes it takes about an hour, but I think your husband adapted much quicker. Or should I call him your wife? Or should I say her?”

“Won’t we be just as freaked out about this when we return to normal after leaving?” Ingrid asked.

“Not usually. While you’re here, it’s like your genuinely forget your original gender. And when you return, most people describe it simply as a wonderful dreamlike feeling they’re awakening from. Though in rare instances, people have a natural aversion to leaving without really knowing why.”

“What happens to them?”

The clerk simply smiled. She couldn’t explain that at all; it was just something she had known on her own trip before taking a job at the resort...
