Retro Gamer (Part 2)

View Part 1 of Retro Gamer.

Alan found being within the game much more challenging than simply playing one. His character kept dying when hit by enemies or falling off a cliff -- which proved to be actually physically painful -- and restarting. And each time, he just kept trying again.

But one time, he just stood there as the timer ran out before ultimately dying again. This caused him to realize something important, his actions were not his own. It felt like he was moving, jumping, and stomping on bad guys, but they were all being dictated by a player on the other side of the screen.

He started to use the cut screens to try to express that he was a real person, that the player on the end of the screen shouldn’t give up, and that he needed to get to the end to escape. Of course, he wasn’t sure if this ever came across as a real plea or if people thought it was just part of the game. Heck, he didn’t even know if his words showed up in English on the screen or Japanese.

But he had to keep trying, to keep begging. He needed nothing more than to escape this game!
