After about a week without a word from the hospital, Jeff was getting worried. He called the hospital first, but they said there was not a patient with that name. But if his body wasn’t there, where had it gone? While the professor was out teaching a class, Jeff decided to explore the house, eventually realizing a door in the basement that he had never been in and was presently locked. With a few tools, he managed to break it down. Behind the door was like a small apartment with a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom.Sure enough, in one of the rooms was his body, hooked up to all sorts of machines and tubes. He was thankful it was alive, but what sort of condition was it in? And why was it here and not at the hospital? What didn’t he know?

World Domination (Part 2)

View Part 1 of World Domination.

Ready to move onto the second phase, Z’xyw needed to return to his ship and transform back to normal. He quickly encountered a glitch as he tried to transport back to his ship; it didn’t recognize his DNA due to his human disguise.

The solution seemed simple enough, transform back to normal first. This had a glitch of its own. It seemed the planet Earth was so far from K’laxor that the DNA of humans didn’t interact like other species they had previously encountered. They were just too distant and different. Z’xyw attempted to return to normal, but only managed to return his skin to a healthy color and gain just a slight bit of his height. The small changes were not enough to get the ship to teleport him back, and Z’xyw felt disgusted to be stuck in the body of a human. Worse still, he was starting to feel what he could only assume must be human emotions. He could now distinguish the male humans due to an extreme sense of lust. But his new body gave him no clues on how this species mated. His mouth seemed far too small and teeth far too dull to instantly disembowel these “males,” and his claws were far too soft to rip out the men’s eggs for him to impregnate. While much about humans had been so easy to understand, it seemed that Z’xyw still had a lot to learn.

“What the hell?” Jenna yelled as she saw Chad and Hannah kissing on a bench.

Hannah mumbled, “I thought we had agreed on trying to keep up appearances.”

“This is taking it too far and you know it! And you’re should be looking for a way to turn us back to normal anyway!” Jenna then turned from Hannah to Chad, “And this is like cheating on me!”

“Is it? I mean, technically, you were right here,” Chad then gestured down at the fact that he currently had Jenna’s body, “And, plus, I’m one good lookin’ dude! I mean, I always knew I was, but your body like really feels it. When am I ever going to have the opportunity to be with myself like this?”

Jenna fumed. She knew her boyfriend was egotistical, but this crossed a line. He also didn’t know when to shut up.

Chad continued, “Besides, we used a c*****.”

Jenna slapped Chad as hard as Hannah arm could manage. Then she cried and ran off. She hated being in Hannah’s body, but right now, she wasn’t sure she even wanted her own body back...

Decision (Part 1)

It had been about two weeks since Charlotte had stolen my body. I still don’t even know why she did it, but I was about to find out and (hopefully) get my body back.

When it first happened, none of my friends believed me when I told them who I really was. They thought I was simply Charlotte playing some sort of weird prank. Nobody except Emily, that is. I didn’t even have to prove it; she just told me could tell. I was thankful to have the help, and Emily and I spent all this time trying to find where Charlotte ran off to with my body.

That’s why were in this club, but just I was about to comfront her, I felt a tugging. I turned around to see Emily crying.

“What’s wrong?” I yelled over the throbbing bass in the club.

“Don’t do it, Jacob,” She said, “I like you. I’ve always liked you. But, big confession here, I’m a lesbian. And I knew it wouldn’t have worked in your old body. But in Charlotte’s body? Look, I don’tknow why she did it, but I like you like this. These two weeks haven’t been terrible, have they? Please, stay wit me.”

I didn’t know what to do. If I didnt comfront Charlotte now, I’d probably never get my body back. But this was a chance to be with Emily, who I will admit I had a crush on for the longest time...

Everything

Eric was visiting the resort with his wife, Carly. So far, the vacation had been pleasant with Eric spending most of the time with Carly. The only exception would be his morning workout, which mostly consisted of a run on the beach.

But this morning, he noticed a small cave while on his run that he hadn’t seen before. He thought about going to tell Carly, so they could explore it together; however, his immediate curiosity got the better of him.

A weird glow appeared to be emanating from the middle of the cave, but as Eric came closer, a strange fungus exploded, filling the air with a magical pink mist that Eric inhaled. In that moment everything changed.

The glow dimmed to nothing, and Eric became Erin. Without skipping a beat, he became she; and she struggled to find her way in the dark back to the entrance.

A little rattled, Erin made her way back to her room. She screamed when instead of finding her husband Carl in the room, there was a woman. Carly was equally shocked to see what she thought was a strange woman entering.

“Who the hell are you? What are you doing in my room? And what did you do to my husband, Carl?” Erin shouted.“This is obviously my room! My husband Eric and I...” Suddenly, Carly looked closely at Erin’s face, “Wait...is that you, Eric?”

Erin looked around the room with a sudden sense of intense fear. It was like she had just noticed something. Instead of being frantic, her voice became a whisper, “No, you must be right. I must have the wrong room. It’s...it’s backwards. Everything is arranged reverse from what it was...but it all is. It’s all backwards; it’s all wrong. Everything.”

Over the next few days, Jason did actually seem to live up to what he claimed; he was successfully blending in with Laura’s body. She no longer felt like needed to check on him at her apartment, and he began taking the subway to work by himself.

Jason was surprised too -- not by how well he was able to do with Laura’s body, but because he realized he was actually enjoying it! He found himself telling her that he spent the evenings alone in her apartment, but he was actually going out places and enjoying himself. He began to wish that their company wouldn’t be able to solve the problem, or that they would take longer than the two week estimate before they could swap everyone back into their own bodies.

However, it seemed that they were actually ahead of schedule. A mere week after everyone swapped, the company announced that they should be able to restore everyone to their original bodies on Monday. As Jason rode the subway home that night, he realized he didn’t want to give Laura back her body, but could he really do anything about it?

A Simulation

You looked out the large windows from your living room to see the beautiful lake your house sat right next life. Life seemed perfect...almost too perfect. It had become fairly typical of your wife Yumi to spoil the moment.

“It’s all fake, you know,” She said with a Mona Lisa smile on her face, “I keep telling you we’re actually in a simulation. None of this is real.”

“Come on, Yumi. It’s feels real. We’re real.”

“We are,” She paused, “But these bodies aren’t. Our real bodies are hooked up to these weird virtual reality machines experiencing all of this! I’m not even a woman in the real world! I’m a dude! And you’re not a guy in the real world either; you’re a chick! I don’t even think we’re married out there.”

“Come on. This is ridiculous. How would you even know any of this?”

“I think my system is glitching. I find myself back there sometimes. I can’t move when I’m there, but I can look around. I can hear things.”

You sighed, “We need to bring you to see a psychiatrist on Monday, Yumi. I worry you aren’t well...”

“Or maybe you’ll learn you are really a woman, and that sort of scares you, doesn’t it?”

A Break

“You have no idea how much these heels hurt!” Jason whined as he squatted down before attempting to sit on the sidewalk, “Come on, let’s take a break!”

“Of course I know how much they hurt!” Heather replied, “Those were my heels -- and that was my body -- up until about an hour ago!”

“Yeah, but you’re used to them! I’m not! And they keep getting worse, so I’m guessing they weren’t as bad on the way out.”

“Fine. But be careful. Remember my body is wearing a dress, so when you sit you might flash someone if you aren’t thinking about it.”

“There’s no one around. Everyone went inside to explore their new bodies because of this Great Shift thing.”

“And we can too...as soon as we get home...which we’d probably be at already if you didn’t complain and insist on breaks all the time.”

Not Punk Rock

Eugene gave a big wave when he saw Ruth on campus for the first time since the Great Shift. But Ruth had to do a double take; it was hard to believe that was once her body. It was obviously her old tattoos that gave it away.

She realized it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise. Eugene was a bit of a dork, and she hadn’t expected him to maintain her punk style. Still, it just felt so extreme! He had removed all her piercings; he wore a plain polo shirt and jeans with no rips; he had flattened her mohawk; he stopped wearing her weird contacts and picked glasses instead. The only thing he couldn’t do much about was her tattoos. He explained that they were hard to get used to; he kept expecting them to wash off in the shower. He also mentioned that he couldn’t wait for cooler weather, so he could cover them with a long sleeve shirt.

She smiled and nodded; being as polite as possible. After all, he was being quite kind; he wasn’t even reacting to the ways she had punked up his body. He didn’t judgmental at all; it was more like he was simply stating a list of facts. And when it was all over; he said he was running late, but asked to meet up again. Ruth found herself smiling and agreeing.

Cosplay

The four nerdy friends had all agreed to go to ComicCon together dressed as characters from Dragon Ball. Sam and Bill showed up first, dressed as Goku and Gohan. Neal drove up next (he was giving them all a ride); he was dressed as Trunks. They were just waiting on Gordon when a woman walked by in a perfect cosplay of Bulma.

Neal stumbled as he spoke to her, “Uh, we’re waiting for, uh, our friend, but you can come along if you want...to the, uh, ComicCon!”

The woman turned and smiled, “Relax, guys, it’s me, Gordon.”

The other three were floored and demanded an explanation. It wasn’t just that this was a perfect cosplay of Bulma; it was that their overweight, white, male friend Gordon now looked like a skinny Asian woman!

“I bought the costume at this weird shop in the mall. You guys had picked all the best characters, and the old guy who sold it to me told me this outfit would be jawdropping. He was right! I mean, if you could see yourselves! When I opened it up this morning; I always didn’t put it on. It was a girl’s outfit, right? And it didn’t look like it would fit. But it did. It transformed me literally to make it all work. Everything you see is real now...and even some of the parts you can’t! I didn’t expect to like this when it happened, but on the walk over here...Well, it’s amazing how nice people are to attractive women. I think I’m really going to enjoy ComicCon today. And I should thank that old man at the mall...”

Not Technically a Swap

Cindy had volunteered to help Russ test out his invention. If it had worked correctly, when the two were attached, Russ should have been able to move Cindy’s hand just by thinking about it. After a few attempts, Russ hung his head in failure.

Cindy didn’t think about for several days until she was at the college’s gym. She noticed she was checking out the other girls and trying to catch glimpses of them in the shower. She found Russ in the lab and declared the machine had turned her into a lesbian! Russ corrected her; it had swapped their sexual preferences!

Russ made some adjustments, and they tried again. Russ became worried as instead of getting back to normal; he had forgotten how his invention worked. Cindy realized she was the one who knew how it worked now and attempted a fix.

After several more attempts, it was like they had entirely swapped minds. Russ’s body (which now thought of itself entirely as Cindy) looked down at what she thought was her own body and begged, “Can you please fix it!? I don’t want my brain swapped into your body, and I certainly don’t want yours in mine!”

“Technically, we haven’t really swapped bodies or brains,” Cindy’s body explained, “This is still Cindy’s body; Cindy’s brain is still inside of it. It’s just that all the brainwaves have been reconfigured to be like how Russ’s were, including emotional reactions, memories, and so on. I’m still Cindy, but I think like Russ -- and think I am Russ! But nothing has really changed at a biological level. I am still technically Cindy!”

“But can you FIX it!?”

“Ah! I think what I just explained is the KEY to fixing it!”

A Love Story

Hector had always considered himself a very lucky man. Despite often referring to himself as a “fat slob of a man,” he was married to a beautiful woman named Matilda, who worked as a ballet instructor. He come home from his plumbing job, and she’d greet him with a smile. They were very happy together.

While a spark of conflict often sets off a body swapping story, Hector and Matilda had no such strife. They simply went to bed one night as happy as ever, and woke up the next morning in each other’s bodies! Hector felt terrible; he was now in his wife’s gorgeous body, but she was stuck in his. She assured him not to worry, as she loved him and his body very much.

They both called off sick and tried to figure out a way to get back to normal, but they couldn’t seem to find a single answer. They were running out of sick days, and they’d need to go back to work. Matilda figured she’d have to give Hector a crash course in ballet, so they went to get studio to practice. He felt odd wearing tights, but he complied with his love’s requests. Then he tried to dance. With no prior instructions and no practice, he was able to pull it off flawlessly. It was like her body just somehow remembered. Matilda was nearly in tears. She wasn’t sure if she was proud or happy or sad or what. She still hoped they’d swap back to normal before too long, but as she watced him dance, she knew she would love her husband no matter what, even if he was stuck in her body forever.

Teed Off (Part 2)

By the time they finished the ninth hole, Harold, Frank, and Wilson were really regretting their wager. Larry was so comfortably below par that the other three had little hope of catching up. They had expected Larry to gloat, but he was actually being fairly stoic about the whole thing.

“Well now that I think I’ve shut you all up,” Larry finally confessed, “If you had asked instead of just ripping into me, I probably would’ve mentioned that the body I swapped into had been a professional golfer. I’m still nowhere near as good as she was, but her natural abilities certainly helps me easily beat the three of you.”

“Okay, okay, we get it,” Frank sighed, “We’re sorry. So, I take it the bet’s off?”

“Oh, hell, no. When we get back to the club house, I expect you to pay up.”

Usually Pass Quickly

Ron’s job had relocated him from the big city to a rather rural suburb halfways across the country. Things were cheap there, so he bought a big house. He wasn’t exactly crazy about living so far from an urban center, and everything just felt as off as a David Lynch film.

It was about a week when a woman arrived at his front porch with a basket. It was hard for him to not stare at her curves, but he did his best -- bringing the basket inside to distract himself as she spoke. She said her name was Anna; she was his neighbor and welcoming him to the neighborhood on behalf of everyone. She said it all with a southern drawl, which was sort of quaint. As they exchanged additional pleasantries on the porch, a storm arrived. Ron offered to let her come inside, but Anna insisted that these things “usually pass quickly.”

The sky lit up in colors Ron had never seen before, and he soon found himself disoriented, grabbing onto the side of the porch. Once the strange storm passed, he realized the horror of what happened -- he had swapped bodies with Anna!

“What the hell?” He asked.

“Like I said,” Anna replied with Ron’s voice while maintaining her southern drawl, “These usually pass quickly. We’ll probably be back to our own bodies in a week or two. You best get back to my husband now; he really doesn’t like he spending too much time talking with other men.”

“But...I’m not you!”

“Yeah, but he doesn’t know that. He refuses to believe in any of this stuff...even though some quite strange things have happened to him over the years. You get used to it...”

Freaky Friday

I was trying to figure out just what the hell was going on. One minute, I’m off studying at college, and the next I find myself inside the body of my own mother -- yet I seemed to be wearing my sister’s school uniform. I stormed off toward home to demand some answers.

Our elderly neighbor was waiting outside for some reason. She looked worried, but before I could ask what was wrong, she explained that she was actually my sister stuck in the neighbor’s body. I quickly added that I was actually her brother.

And so my sister started explaining about the weird “Freaky Friday” incident she had, how she woke up inside our mother’s body. They decided to avoid cliches and not try to pretend to be each other, which is why she put her uniform on and headed to school, despite being inside of mom’s body. Once there, she begged for help from the weird goth chick. She did some research about some magic spells and came to my sister after school with a solution: a spell for a single wish. She had to study it and cast it when she was alone.

And so my sister wished. The wish was simple: For her and my mom to switch bodies again. It was probably too simple. She should’ve specifed “with each other” or something like that. That vagueness was apparently how I ended up swapped with mom’s body and how my sister ended up as my elderly neighbor (with the neighbor now in my sister’s body and my mom in mine). Unless we find yet another solution, it seems were all stuck...

Giving Up (Part 1)

It would be months before Dan learned tha the flash of light he had just seen was something called “The Great Shift,” an event that swapped the bodies of everyone in the world. The first thing he noticed right after the light was the pain his body felt -- everything ached -- and the next thing he noticed was the broken down shape of the house he was now inside.

The aching had an explanation fairly quickly. He was in the wrong body -- the body of an elderly woman! It was absolutely terrifying. He slowly walked to town. Things seemed chaotic, but he had no way of communicating with people that all spoke a different language from him. He had no way of knowing he wasn’t the only one stuck in the wrong body.

And he thought about his options. For a moment, he thought maybe the best course of action was just to lie down on the floor and give up...

Pride

Raymond had been marching in the annual pride parade for ten years since he came out. And every year the one annoying ultra-right member of the city council tried to stop the parade from happening. She was more a nuisance than a threat, but she was annoying regardless.

While there was nothing particularly special about this year’s event, Raymond still went to bed excited the night before. However, while the town slept, the Great Shift washed over the entire planet, swapping the bodies of over 90% of humanity.

When Raymond awoke, he was shocked to realize he was in the body of a woman. He quickly became a little excited about the idea until a few moments later when he realized just what woman he was. Against all odds, he found himself in the body of the city council woman who had tried to cancel the parade.

He decided this wasn’t going to stop him. He quickly went home to spray various colors of instant hair dye on his head and grabbed a rainbow t-shirt. Nothing was going to stop him from marching in the parade! Not even this body. The crowed was a little sparser than usual (which he imagined was due to people being in shock when waking up with the wrong bodies), and he got a few curious looks from other marchers, who probably just took a minute to realize this body was swapped like any other. And he took a little joy passing by protesters, who seemed to yell especially loud at him this year...

The Hall of Mirrors

This story is loosely inspired by my memories of a similar series at Fictionmania from many years ago.

Dave was tired of the long lines at the amusement park. The log flume has an hour wait; the roller coaster was over ninety minutes. He was ready to give up and leave when it saw the Hall of Mirrors. He shrugged. The Hall of Mirrors was pretty stupid, but it had one thing going for it no line. It started out as a typical-easy-to-navigate maze that lead to a room. And suddenly Dave was impressed. Instead of his simply being distorted, looking in these mirrors had reflections that chaned him into entirely different people. It was weird watching all sorts of people of different ages, races, and genders mimicing his moves in these mirrors. He wondered if they were more screens than mirrors and reached out to touch one where he was reflected back as an Asian woman in a short red dress. As he did so, instead of touching the glass, his hand went straight in. As he tried to pull it out, he got sucked inside. He soon found himself in the room again, but the mirrors were no longer reflecting anything. He shrugged as he made his way back out. In the maze, his new reflection was unavoidable -- he had become the Asian woman from the mirror he had touched! He walked out of the Hall of Mirrors and discovered he was now at a completely different place that was more than a carnival than an amusement park. He realized he couldn’t read any of the signs, and he wasn’t sure if that was because they were in a foreign language or if this body couldn’t read. It was beginning to dawn on him that he wasn’t just in a different boy; he was inhabiting a completely different life!

Island Vacation (Part 1)

It had been the last day of Mason’s vacation, and he had been walking his dog on a beach when a woman laying there started yelling at him about dogs not being allowed or whatever. He yelled at her about chilling out, and it grew into a big argument.

Mason had mostly forgotten about it by the time he went to pack later that evening, so he could catch his flight back home the next morning. But instead, he felt woozy and fell asleep on the bed.

He woke up with water tickling his toes, and he realized he was somehow on the beach. It became a huge shock when he realized he was not only in the wrong place, but also in th wrong body -- a woman’s body! To make things even worse, he was sure he recognized the clothes he was wearing; they belonged to that woman he had argued with at the beach earlier! He couldn’t be sure without a mirror that he was her, but he was certainly dreading the idea.

He eventually found her things, but her phone wasn’t getting any signal. He made his way inland and finally was able to call the hotel. It seems his body had already checked out and likely already on the plane back. That meant Mason was stuck here in this body!

Air Gapped

“What the hell is going on, Hassan? Why aren’t we swapping back?” Ling demanded to know.

Hassan checked the build on his tablet, “We must have been hacked. The data...has been deleted.”

“It shouldn’t be too hard to recreate the data. Everyone’s bodies still exist, even if we all have the wrong minds inside of them right now.”“No, like ALL the data. The software that we used to create our body swap app...the backup...everything!”

Ling began to worry, but she was quick-thinking, “What about the original body swapping machine? That thing is air gapped, right? We could all swap back one at a time.”

“That thing is twenty years old now! Let’s hope it still works! The app was supposed to be the future!”

“Yeah, and now we have a million or so users all stuck in the wrong bodies -- including us -- so why don’t you and I go down to that old piece of crap in the basement and see if it still works. It was fun being in your body for a bit, but I don’t want to go to sleep wearing your boxer shorts tonight! If we can get back to normal, then we’ll work on everyone else.”

Bake Sale

It had two weeks since Tim’s near fatal car accident that nearly ended his life; the doctor’s saved him by transplanting his brain into the body of a woman who was also in the accident that had gone brain dead. It was hard enough to go from an 18 year old guy to a woman in her late 40s, but the fact that the woman in question was Terri Walsh, the mother of the obnoxious school quarterback, Brandon, that had often bullied Tim was particularly challenging. It also didn’t help that Terry seemed to own nothing but form-fitting designer clothes that were just so uncomfortable.

Still, Tim tried to do his best. When the yearly bake sale came around in May, Tim made some cookies for Brandon to bring in. The quarterback was shocked.“You BAKED these? Usually you just pick up some crap from the store.” He asked as he grabbed one and reluctantly took a bite, “And they’re actually okay? Who are you and what did you do to my mother?”

Tim did his best to give a small laugh. Brandon had no way of knowing how close he was to the truth. He hadn’t told Brandon; the doctors told him he couldn’t tell anyone. For these two weeks, he had to pretend to be Terri, and was going to have to continue to do so for the rest of his life.

As Stephanie continued to rant, Ming continued to try to say something in response but couldn’t get more than a word or two out before being drowned out by Stephanie’s shouting. All Ming wanted to do was tell her daughter that she had figured out a way to reverse the body swap and get them both back to normal. Of course, Ming wasn’t going to mind waiting a little longer to share the news. She loved being eighteen again, and it was clear that Stephanie was still working out issues while in Ming’s body. After a week or being swapped, Ming had hoped that Stephanie would have calmed down. Well, maybe in another week she’ll be ready to listen. Until then, Ming was going to enjoy her time in Stephanie’s body.

Waiting on the Porch

Rick rang the doorbell and waited, but Jia didn’t answer. He knocked and shouted her name, but she still didn’t come to the door. It didn’t make any sense! He had only taken a few hours to repair his machine that had earlier swapped his body into hers. It was a pure accident when he first activated the device. And it only happened due to an increased amount of power and the proximity of her condo to his. She had seemed very upset about the whole thing, so it made no sense for her to shut him out like this. Maybe she was just trying to make him worry, but he had been waiting a long time out here, quite ready to use the device again...

Over the Fence

Duncan had heard rumors online about a magazine photoshoot for swimsuit models and thought he could sneak a peak. The area seemed to be all fenced off and surrounded by security, but Duncan was convinced he could sneak over the fence. As he began to do so, he spotted a blue light out of the corner of his eye.

He wondered if he had fallen off the fence and hit his head. One of the security guards was yelling at him, but not in the way he expected. He was holding a camera and shouting things like, “Give me a pout, baby,” and “Come on, work it.” Duncan felt compelled to oblige. He pouted and posed for the guard, who took all sorts of photos. There was a whole crew. It sunk in slowly for Duncan, but he realized he was acting just like a supermodel at a photoshoot. And he was even wearing a swimsuit and had a woman’s body! But despite how they were treating him, he hardly looked like a supermodel. He had glasses and graying hair; he was probably around 50 years old. He also seemed to be the only one who thought there was anything strange about any of this!

He had no idea it was all due to the role exchanger that he saw while hopping the fence. It had given him the supermodel’s job and life, but with the body of the middle aged woman who worked as her agent. The photographer, of course, now had the security guard’s body while a random member of the crew now had the supermodels’s body...

Homeless

The wind must have blown the top off of the cardboard box Nate had slept in last night; and judging from his wet body and ground, it also must have rained. It had been three long days since the Great Shift had placed him into the body of this homeless woman, and each day had been very difficult.

When it first happened, Nate tried not to panic. He knew he was in the wrong body with a rather unpleasant smell. He immediately knew it was a woman’s body, but only found out she was homeless from a few people who ranted at him about it. Finding out about the Shift was a relief, he was sure he could just explain to someone about who he really was.

That proved to be much difficult than Nate imagined. He hadn’t really noticed it before, but he inhereited all the disorders of his present body. He couldn’t stop himself from shouting out obscenities, having fits of anger, or showing sudden tics in movement. He was sure he could control it all with medication, but his actions made it nearly impossible for anyone to be willing to help him out. As such, he stayed homeless as he worked his way back towards his home. Social interactions didn’t go well, but maybe he could write a note or something to help get the help this body needed and to help get his life back to somewhat normal...

Beta Test

Mitchell was super excited to beta test the new app from a new startup that promised “VR, but in real life.” The app was thin on instructions due to the beta test, but when he tried to press the “Activate” button, it said holding hands with another person was required. Mitchell thought this strange but called up Emily, his girlfriend, who agreed to meet him in the park to test the thing.

They met in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge, and he held Emily’s hand as he hit “Activate” once again. This time, a strange burst of power shot out from the phone and entangled the couple. Before it even fully dissipated, Mitchell realized he was now looking at his own body. The app had caused him to feel like he had swapped bodies with Emily!

“This is next level,” Mitchell said, “I actually feel like I am in your body! I even think I sound like you!”

“No, Mitchell,” Emily smiled, “I think we actually ARE in each other’s bodies.”

“But that’s impossible! It has to be some sort of tech illusion, like advanced VR.”

Mitchell began to walk around the park, and they all confirmed Emily was right. It wasn’t all just in his head; he was actually now in Emily’s body! This truly was beyond anything either had ever experienced.

Karaoke Bar

After a rough day at work, Jason and a couple of co-workers hit up a karaoke place for happy hour. As they got drunk and sunk their hearts out, they soon began to realize they stayed much longer than they intended. They all agreed on just a few more songs as Jason excused himself to the bathroom. On his way back, he bumped into someone. He didn’t get a good look at them and being a little drunk didn’t help, but he was pretty sure it was a woman.

Before he could return to his co-workers,an arm reached out and pulled him into a different room.

“Ye Jun! Why do you look so confused,” One of the people in the room asked Jason, “It’s your birthday! We are celebrating! Be happy!” The person handed Jason a drink. Jason noticed the fact that his hand clutching the glass had pink painted nails. Within a few more seconds, he noticed they matched a shiny pink dress he now wore.

He could only guess he swapped bodies with the woman he had run into in the hall. But what could he do about it? He tried to think of an excuse to leave, but didn’t even have time to think of something before another person put a microphone in his hand and he found himself flawlessly singing in a language he didn’t even understand.

Bubbly

Lenny was quite happy to hear from his best friend, Bruce, shortly after the Great Shift swapped over the bodies of over 90% of the population. Without hearing much from many of the people he knew for several days, Lenny feared the worst. Bruce was one of the first people he was able to get in touch with. Larry explained over the phone that he was lucky and unchanged; it was obvious from Bruce’s voice that he was now a woman. The two agreed to meet at an address Bruce gave, and when Larry showed up, he doubled checked the address. He was sure it was wrong. This was a goddamn mansion! He nervously rang the doobell, and a woman in a bikini answered, explaining she was Bruce.

Bruce was acting all bubbly and flirty as he gave Lenny a tour. Finally, Lenny had enough and demanded answers; it was really weird for Bruce to be acting this way. Bruce tried to laugh it off until they made their way to the pool.

“Look,” Bruce finally sighed, “The woman whose body I’m in is missing. Her husband is now inside the body of an old dude inside; he should be dead any day now. In the interim, he is paying me a lot money to dress and act in certain ways to make him feel like she’s not really gone. I can still bring friends like you over and do pretty much whatever I want, but I have to keep this up, okay?” Bruce then quickly put back on his bubbly persona, “I mean, like, okay, whatever?”Larry simply nodded in response.

The Future War

In the year 2575, a plague hit the human race causing the deaths of 90% of the female population and leaving much of the remaining 10% infertile. Wars of conquest soon broke out, and Xavier was a lowly troop fighting for the Mid Atlantic Alliance against the UDCA. His unit was ambushed one night, and he found himself a prisoner of war.

The scientists didn’t hesitate at the opportunity to explain their experiments to Xavier. They theorized a woman could avoid the plague and its infertility simply by not being born a woman. He objected that experiments on prisoners were a violation of international law. But they laughed it off, telling Xavier they would be changing his very DNA. If international observers came snooping and tested him, he wouldn’t come up in their database as Xavier Collins, but rather as Xie Chu -- a resident of the UDCA.

Each session was painful. And it probably would have been one thing if he had simply been changed into a copy of Xie, but the scientists went further. They had given him better child bearing hips; they widen his birth canal to an unnatural degree; his womb was exceptionally elastic and able to carry eight fetuses at the same time with little difficulty; the final enhancement reduced gestation time to about four months.

As the scientists brought him out to display in front of many government officials and business leaders, Xavier felt more like livestock than a human being. And finally as scientists announced their achievement, it seemed there was one thing they hadn’t yet mentioned to Xavier: He had already been fertilized and the results were better than expected. The hope was that Xavier was mere months away from birthing fifteen babies. And if he didn’t survive? Well, they had plenty of other test subjects.

Friends

Carly walked into the bar where she had agreed to meet Seth. They had been friends since high school, despite being very different people. And though they drifted apart, the Great Shift brought them back together when it swapped their bodies.

Seth could tell Carly was uncomfortably by the way he had dressed her body, so he knew he needed to address the issue. “Come on, Carly,” He stated, “You know what I’m like. You couldn’t have possibly kept expecting me to wear your floral dresses and preppy clothes.”

“No, I suppose not,” She replied, “But it’s still weird to see that you’ve dyed my hair. Not to mention the expert way you applied quite gorgeous makeup and the tight jean shorts!”

“I’m come to embrace the fact that I’m female now. I’m just not the girlie girl type you were.”

“I suppose I can respect that. This is still so weird though...”
