Changes (Part 1)

Jim was on vacation with his wife at a beautiful island resort. Early one morning, he went out to play some basketball while his wife decided to lounge at the beach. As he played against a few other guys, he noticed a blue light out of the corner of his eye, and then things got strange.

One of the guys he was playing with gained a lot of weight, while a chubby woman nearby seemed to gain his muscle tone. Another one complained about breaking a nail on what Jim noticed were perfectly manicured now. Jim certainly wasn’t immune, as he looked at his reflection in some shiny equipment to see an Asian version of himself looking back. He seemed to be the only one to notice everything was changing around him.

The moment that really concerned him was when a stray dog on its hind legs approached and spoke, asking to join the game. It must’ve swapped minds with a human! And that person didn’t notice! Jim needed to check on his wife. As he ran from the court to the beach, the next change he could feel. He switched genders with a woman! He was worried that his large shorts would fall down as he ran due to his smaller frame. His chest felt awkward as he ran without the support of a sportsbra. He didn’t care; he needed to see if his wife was okay.

Coaxing

Jenna was trying really hard to coax her boyfriend, Nate, into a better mood. He had been completely upset since the Great Shift had swapped into the body of a woman. He considered her very lucky, as she was one of the few people in the world who kept their own body.

“Being a woman can actually be pretty enjoyable,” She told him as she placed her hand in a way to entice him, “And you know I’ve always liked both men and women anyway.”

“Yeah, you do...but my new body clearly doesn’t. I’m trapped in the body of a straight woman and looking at you does nothing for me. I want it to! I really do! It just doesn’t! I want to go back to the way it was; to being your boyfriend instead of borrowing your clothes! I want to feel like I used to! This body just can’t seem to no matter what my mind wants!”

Help! (Part 2)

“When I asked for your help, I expected that meant you might be smart enough to help me get back into my own body; I didn’t expect you to swap yourself with Mrs. Lee’s husband!” Ed said.

“Well, you had left me alone in the basement as you went to store to get some more stuff. Then he came home, and I panicked!” Jeremy explained.

“So at least know what chemical compound you used, right? You can make more and swap Mrs. Lee and I back to own own bodies? And you and Mr. Lee, too?”

“Not exactly. So after he and I swapped, I tackled him in my former body. I tied him up and put him in the closet. I tried several times with the same formula, but as you can see -- I’m still stuck as Mr. Lee!”

“So you’re saying that we’re not only stuck in the wrong bodies, but in Mrs. Lee’s basement right now is your body -- one of Mrs. Lee’s students -- tied up and locked in a closet? Damn, Jeremy, I thought you were smart, but you seem to lack even the most basic common sense!”

The Infection

In 2074, the strangest virus began to work its way across the globe. For the first two weeks of infection, it was mostly undetectable but highly contagious. Then the virus started to make you sick and attack your brain; once it could be tracked in your system, it was determined you had approximately two months left to live.

The solution, it seemed, was a technology that had been outlawed just five years prior: brain swapping. It seemed anyone who had illegal used a brain swapper in their two month period ended up surviving. Bans were quickly overturned and hospitals soon set up dating-profile-like websites to help the infected find each other. The swaps were permanent as attempts to swap back resulted in instant re-infection.

There were some catches. Not everyone could safely swap with each other. You had to find a match. Jared had signed on after being infected to find a whole host of people to choose from, but he almost instantly got a message in his inbox from a woman named Alice. She wasn’t so lucky. In fact, she hadn’t been compatible with a single person when she first signed on, and was giddy when she got an email about Jared signing up as a match. Jared didn’t want to swap with a woman, but agreed knowing he was her only hope.

They didn’t meet until they arrived at the hospital and sat in the waiting room together. Alice was extremely nervous but also very thankful. Jared was a little scared that Alice’s body was soon going to be his, but he kept telling himself it was the right thing to do.

Dirty Laundry (Part 2)

Mike had been so bored doing laundry all day, but got a little more excited when he found a pair of underwear. For a moment, his male mind took a bit of enjoyment in imagining a woman wearing it. But then his enthusiasm waned. What if he was expected to wear this type of underwear? He might be wearing a pair like it right now! However, he quickly checked to instead discover he was wearing something more suited a woman his current age, which almost made him feel a little worse. But then he realized they must belong to his girlfriend, which allowed him to imagine her wearing the underwear. This enjoyment was soon broken as well when he remembered his dad had swapped with her, which would mean his dad would be the one wearing underwear like this; in fact, his dad was likely wearing underwear like this right now. As he thought more about it, he was really feeling uncomfortable and gross about this whole thing...

Cramped

“Oh,my God!” Justin exclaimed while clutching his midsection, “This hurts! What the hell is this!?”

“It’s cramps.” Olivia explained, “And I can’t speak for all women, but mine hurt A LOT. Or should I say YOURS hurt a lot?”

“No, no, no! I wanna switch back! Let’s switch back! Please! I can’t deal with this!”

“A deal’s a deal. You paid me $10,000 in order to enjoy being a woman for a year. Hope you enjoy eleven more just like the one you’re having now!”

“No, please! You can keep the money! Just give me my body back! I can’t go through with this for a whole year!”

Inside the News Room

“Okay, listen up! Everyone has swapped bodies, but it’s our jobs to report on that. We have a canned story that’s slated to end in 30 seconds, and we need to be on this. I am very aware I appear to be Emma, but I am, in fact, your executive producer, Elliott. Please tell me that’s Max behind the desk ready to lead us in,” Elliott said as he addressed the rest of the news room.

“I don’t know if this intern’s body is going to look all that commanding giving the news,” Max protested, “She’s like a 90 pound, 19-year-old meek Asian girl!”

Elliott addressed Max directly, “Your gravitas doesn’t come from your body, Max; it comes from you being you. I know you can deliver, okay? Now,” He turned to the rest of the staff, “Who do we have in the field? Do we know how widespread this whole thing is? Any word on if this is a terrorist action? What sort of name are we giving to this whole great shifting of bodies anyway?”

Medical Miracle

Seth had been in a horible car accident. The scene was gruesome with those involved having many body parts severed and internal organs flung from their bodies. Through some groundbreaking technology, doctors were able to save the lives of everyone involved. And the recovery period was sped up considerably. The only problem was that the doctors didn’t always place the correct internal organs back into the right body.

As such, Seth’s brain and lungs were now inside of a 40 year old woman. Once the error was discovered, the doctors explained that it would be possible to restore everyone but not immediately. Safety concerns with the new technology required a waiting period. As such, Seth had to learn about his new body, as he was going to be stuck in it for a few months. The woman lived in the city and worked in the art world. She had never married nor had any children. Her wardrobe was genrally eccentric and she even had pink hair (though her roots were now growing in due to the initial recovery). He couldn’t believe this was the body he was going to be stuck in for a while!

What Was She Thinking?

Edmond was pretty sure his maid Lea hadn’t fully thought out her plan. Whatever she did that caused them to swap bodies placed her inside his body, giving her access to his vast wealth, but he was also 80-years-old. Meanwhile, he was now in her youthful 20-something year old body -- and in complete control of what she would be eating. Edmond was also sure she didn’t know where his will was, nor the fact that he was planning to leave Lea and the rest of his home staff a significant amount of his fortune.

With all these considerations in mind, Edmond simply planned to slowly poison Lea. No one would even suspect foul play with what looked like a fairly tyical death of an old man. He’d be able to start a new life with essentially money he left for himself. Sure, he did feel a little bad about killing Lea in his body, but she had stolen it in the first place!

Passed Deadline

There were plenty of laws passed in the years following the Great Shift. One such law had been written in the hopes of trying to truly sort out who was who. If you registered the identity of who you were before the Shift and who you were now, and the person you know were never claimed their life within a certain time period, you were allowed to keep their possession and use them until such time as the person claimed their life. Many often didn’t do it.

Brian felt it was the right thing to do. He had been living in Janice’s apartment ever since. And the deadline for Janice to claim her life had just passed. That meant her designer clothes, fancy apartment, and vast wealth were now all legally his. Even her name if he wanted it! Despite the fact that he had been doing so for a while now, the idea that it was now all his legally felt very freeing. He could’ve never dreamed of living this type of life, yet now he was!

Celebration?

“I can’t believe that worked!” Brendon said with a laugh while his buddy Lou jumped behind the bar to grab some drinks to celebrate.

“A toast!” Lou shouted as they each downed a beer and their laughter continued, “To stealing our wives bodies!”

But their laughter faded after several minutes as the pair stared at each other. “Why are we celebrating this?” Brendon asked his friend, “My butt feels so big and my pants are so tight. Not to mention...I don’t want to be a woman! Why did we cast that magic spell?”

Neither Brandon nor Lou could figure out why they cast the spell to swap bodies with their wives. Of course that was because their wives has cast a spell first, to convince them to do it. As that spell wore off, the two men were now stuck in their wives bodies yet no longer had the desire to have their wives bodies.

Expose (Part 2)

After examining the machine for thirty minutes, Dr. Baxter told Amy the news. “I’m afraid the machine has been sabotaged,” He said, “I suspect someone higher up at the company got word I was planning on speaking with you tonight. We should probably be thankful we are even still human.”

“Can you reverse it?” Amy begged, “I don’t want to be stuck in your body.”

“No more than I want to be stuck in yours! It’s not a question of if I can reverse it, it’s a question of if I have enough time to. They’re probably on to the fact that I’m here. They’ll try to cut my access. I’ll need you to bypass any biometrics, of course, but if I route a few things through alternate subroutines, I should be able to safely swap us back to normal a bit before morning breaks.”

The Day (Part 2)

Jason threw on some clothes and began to talk with the man. They tried to sort out the situation that Jason kept outlining.

“So, I woke up thir morning in the body of your wife, Amy,” Jason summed up, “We’ve tried calling my cell phone to see if she’s in my body, but we get no answer. Your name is Matthew, and you’ve been married to Amy for about three years. You two have no kids. You guys aren’t into freaky magic or weird stuff, and neither of us have any clue as to why I would swap with Amy. Oh, and she’s got work in about two hours.”

“One favor,” Matthew intrerupted, “Could you please sit a bit more lady like? Like legs crossed or together or something? It’s weird seeing her body act like a dude

“But don’t forget, I AM a dude! Just a dude stuck in your wife’s body.”

Addiction

A few weeks ago, Dave had gotten some pills at a party. Not wanting to be seen as “no fun,” he downed one with completely surprising results -- he transformed into a cute Asian woman. He was so terrified, he ended up hiding in a bathroom until morning. The next day, he began to enjoy himself a little bit more, and when the effect of the pill had worn off after a day, he found himself wanting to take another.

With each pill, the transformation lasted less and less while at the same time, Dave was enjoying being a woman more and more. Until finally he took his last one, but he was desperate for more. He ended up at a shady house, discussing it with a dealer.

“I just need one for tonight,” He explained, “Then I’m done. I think I’m going to transform back into my male self in an hour, but I have a date tonight! I can’t show up as a guy! You’ve gotta help.”

“Well,” The dealer said, “These pills aren’t cheap, you know? I suppose I could part with one for $500 if you got it.”

Dave nodded. It was expensive, but he was desperate!

Stocking Shelves

It’s hard to believe that a month ago I was one of the richest men on the planet, and now I’m making a little over minimum wage stocking shelves at a discount store.

It was all because of the Great Shift. After that flash of light, I found myself in Maria’s body here. The government was quick to set up programs to help prove who people really were, but I didn’t know any of the stuff needed to prove my identity. I had never bothered to learn most of my personal info; I always had other people do it for me. But now? Well, I’m on my own, I guess, living Maria’s life.

The weirdest part? I’m not all that unhappy. I miss my wealth, but Maria doesn’t have it all that bad. She’s got good friends and family who support her...er, me -- even if they could instantly tell I wasn’t her, simply by how well they knew her. I don’t mind any of it at all!

The results of visiting the spa on Exchange Island were probably predictable, especially given the name of the package Doug had purchased, “The Rejuvenation Special.” But if swapping bodies with an old lady upon landing at the resort wasn’t crazy enough, the spa had managed to reverse the aging process by a few decades. He was very thankful to be young again and not have his bones and joints be sore. He still wasn’t nearly as attractive as Mark was right now, but at least he could deal with having this body for the rest of his trip. He was going to go back to his room to change so he could head back to the beach, but he began to wonder what other services the resort might offer...

Like a Lady

“Oh, thank God!” Luke said as he turned his chair to see Christina arriving at brunch spot where they had agreed to meet up, “I’ve been freaking out since I woke up in your body! How the hell are we going to change back into our own bodies?”

Christina could only look at Luke in shock. It wasn’t still she finally sat down that she was able to regain her composure and speak. “I don’t know how we swapped bodies. I don’t know how we swap back. That’s why what I’m about to tell you is very important. You are in my body now; a woman’s body. I appreciate that you tried to dress like I would, but there’s a lot you don’t know. For one, that’s a wrap skirt. If you aren’t careful, you are going to expose myself to everyone. Second, when you see, put your legs together. Again, for basically the same reason. You’ve been in my body for less than two hours, and I feel so horrified by looking at the way you’re holding yourself. Please, as long as we are stuck, act more like a lady and be more careful!”

Magic Staff

The convention hall had been filled with so much commotion that Jason thought it was some sort of promotional stunt that he had to check out. As it turned out, one of the cosplayers wasn’t really playing at all. She was some sort of witch who could use magic for real and had some sort of magic staff that could swap people’s bodies.

Jason got close before he had any idea what was going on. In fact, he got so close that he was face to face with the witch. It caught her offguard and she used the staff, but accidentally ended up swapping herself with Jason. Suddenly finding himself in a new body, it didn’t take long for Jason to figure out what was going on. And while he wasn’t thrilled to be in the body of a woman, he also recognized as long as he was in this body with the strange staff in his hands, he would be preventing future body swapping chaos. He quickly rushed into the crowd, blending in fairly well with the throngs of cosplayers.

Antiques (Part 1)

Kevin was browsing the antique shop with his wife, Anne, and his brother, Kyle. All three of them spied a vase on a table that just seemed to call to them. Kevin and Kyle reached out to pick it up at the same time. Suddenly, there was a bright flash.

“What the hell?” Kyle asked as he noticed he was now grabbing hold of his brother’s arm instead of the vase. Then he saw his hand was very different; it was Anne’s hand. He was in Anne’s body!

“No way,” Anne said from Kyle’s body.

Kevin stood silently for a moment before giving both Anne and Kyle glances before scolding both of them. “Didn’t you read the sign when you came in?” He said in an odd accent, “It said ‘Do not touch!’”

At the Party (Part 2)

Greg continued to check on his other guests. In particular, he was looking for Emily, a woman he had a total crush on. He was excited when she actually showed up, but hadn’t been able to speak with her before the Great Shift had happened. He hoped she was unshifted like him, but when he saw her coming out of the room where the coats were, he realized that was unlikely.

“I needed to find something silver,” She told him, “Silver blocks the government radio waves that cause mind control, you know. My last hat must not have been silver enough; that’s why I am here. I’m...not where I should be.”

Considering she was ranting like the homeless guy that sometimes stood outside his loft, Greg could easily guess who must be in Emily’s body right now. It certainly wasn’t Emily.

The Hard Part

Theo had awoken that morning to head out to work and found flowers in front of the apartment.

“How sweet!” He thought for a moment, “Mary’s boyfriend must have sent them. He probably misses her.”

After walking with the flowers for a few blocks, he tossed them in the trash. He was going to break up with her boyfriend tonight. After all, it had been a week now since he first swapped bodies with Mary. If there was any hope of swapping back to normal, they probably would’ve at least had a lede by now. Instead, Theo was starting to plan of what his life would be like now that he had Mary’s body. He didn’t want to be tied down to all of her life decisions; he wanted to make his own. And that included her boyfriend! And her job -- though he had already resolved to quit, he wasn’t going to do so until he had something else lined up. Of course, the hard part was going to be telling Mary...

Going Home

Emmanuel was working as a security guard downtown when the Great Shift happened. Much like everyone else, he found himself in a completely different body. So instead of being in the lobby scanning people for metal and whatnot, he was now sitting in a cubicle in the body of someone who was quite a bit younger than he had been and most certainly female.

A few minutes passed and an announcement was made that everyone was being sent home due to the Shift. Emmanuel looked at the high heels on his feet and was worried. He began to open the drawers of the desk in the cubicle and breathed a huge sigh of relief to find a pair of sneakers that fit his now dainty feet.

As he walked out of the building, he noted that he was about ten blocks from where he worked as a security guard. He also opened the purse he had found to discover keys and an ID. He resolved that the quick walk to this woman’s apartment (which he had the keys for) was a better idea than taking the subway all the way back to his own place (which, in this body, he no longer had the keys for), and he began to wonder how much of this woman’s life he was allowed to assume for himself.

The Game (Part 2)

The game truly was magic and Nick swapping bodies with Emma was just the beginning. On the first round, Jackson turned into a female version of himself, Emma and Tricia swapped bodies, Nick had his arms disappear for a turn.

It was all so weird. Emma noticed, however, that as she got closer to the end of the game, she became more and more like herself; more and more normal. But as she looked at her three friends, it seemed the closer she got to the end of the game, the more and more they were looking like her as well.

Emma thought about throwing the game a little to help her friends catch up and maybe get back to normal. It didn’t seem to help. A few more rounds in and they looked more like her than ever. And just as Emma was about to win, her friends collectively made a request: to take a break.

Emma was a little worried about finishing the game and leaving them all stuck as copies of her, so she agreed, hoping maybe they could take the time to read the rules some more or figure out how to get them back to normal...even though they didn’t seem to mind.

Just in Case

I was on vacation in southeast Asia when it happened. A woman ran up to me, touched a medallion to my chest, dropped the medallion, and ran off. I didn’t think much of it until I began to transform into her. The first thing I noticed was the swelling of my chest, then the slow lengthening of my hair. The brief pain I felt just below the waist was one of the worst things I had ever experienced as I went from male to female. And it wasn’t until I saw a mirror that I realized my face was now hers.

I had decided to keep the medallion she had dropped, believing it to be responsible for the change. If I saw her again, I’d do to her exactly what she did to me. But I soon realized that was impossible. I had been on vacation; she had likely taken my plane ticket and left. And who knows if she even stayed at my home? She could be anywhere!

In this woman’s body, I couldn’t seem to get a visa. I couldn’t even go after her. I thought about using the medallion to steal a different body in order to do so, but ultimately decided to make a better life for myself here with her body. I was pretty resourceful, and when all was said and done, I made out quite well. Oh, and I still kept the medallion. Just in case.

L1Z

Ethan had hoped for a relaxing day at home, but when he tried to turn on the streaming service that directly beamed content into his brain, it wasn’t working. Even the direct link to the help line seemed to be down, so he reluctantly went to a store in town.

Service droid L1Z-13 greeted him. Despite her robotic body, she had a humanoid head, intended to ease people who might be apprehensive about talking with a robot. She informed him of a system-wide update that should’ve been pushed already. She noted that the failure wasn’t unusual, as a few droids in the back had failed to update as well. All that was required was a manual reset.

Ethan went in the back with L1Z-13 and his streaming service was powered down, putting him briefly to sleep. He jolted back awake, still standing on his feet.

“What the hell?” He asked as he realized he was seeing his own body across the room, examining its own fingers.

“I seem to be flesh,” His body said, “There was an error with my update. I am L1Z-14.” His body paused, “I WAS L1Z-14. I am now...human. YOU are L1Z-14.”“What!? No way! I’m not a...” Ethan then looked at his own fingers which were clearly metal and moving roboticly. He didn’t even finish his setence.

“L1Z Unit. Tell me my name and address.”

Ethan didn’t want to tell the robot in his body, but he couldn’t fight his programming, which required him to comply with human requessts. “Your name is Ethan Riley. You reside at 3 Hamilton Street,” He said against his own will, “Your service is complete. Thank you for coming.”

Ethan knew he was stuck in the hell of being a L1Z Unit.

Thousands of Years Later...

In 2050, a team of scientists were sent into space in order to travel to potentially habitable planets outside the solar system. Due to the long nature of the journey, the scientists were in stasis for most of the trip. As their bodies aged, new bodies were cloned, and memories of the scientists were placed inside the clones. This would continue automated for thousands of years as they made their trip.

Edwin Greene was probably the first scientist to be brought out of status, and he immediately noted some differences to his body. It seemed that in the cloning process, the automation was subject to a few mistakes. For starters, it seemed at some point, his X chromosome had been duplicated instead of giving him an X and a Y. He seemed taller too. He only hoped there was no damage to the memory transfer. As he floated around the spaceship, he also thought it might be wise to check in on some of his team to see if they encountered something similar. The gender balance had been very delicate, so a few too many errors like what had happened to him could be problematic on the new planet.

It was difficult to count exactly how many people on campus Neil had swapped. Some were quite angry and very vocal about their new bodies, others were happy, and a good number wanted to pretend like nothing at all had happened and assume the lives of the body they now had. Neil was in the latter group.

He also didn’t want anyone to trace the whole incident back to him. Not only was he unsure if he could swap people anymore, as his power had seem to become diminished and weak, could he ever prioritize who goes first? And what if one person wanted to swap back but the other didn’t? How could he prove anyone was telling the truth about who they really were either?

No, he just decided he would stay under the radar and assume the life of Li, the woman whose body he had ultimately swapped into.

Putting Their Heads Together (Part 1)

It had been blizzard conditions for three days straight, and the next day was just watching landlord dig the front door of her apartment out. After all that time, Heather had some serious cabin fever. When she awoke the next morning, she was actually happy to rush off to work. However, as she did so, she ended up slipping on ice on the sidewalk just outside. She bumped hard into a man on the street, knocking them both out for a moment.

She awoke to see a hand helping her stand up. As she followed the hand up to see a face, she was shocked to see her own! She looked down at her own body to see the clothes of the man she had run into when she slipped! It was like something out of one of the animes she had watched online during the storm, where two people swap bodies when they hit heads -- except this was now happening to her in real life!

Mission

“Excellent. I have arrived,” I felt myself saying without having any clue as to why I was speaking such words. I continued to speak, “I apologize in advanced for the following.”

The next few minutes were pure pains as my entire body re-arranged itself. I became smaller and more feminine. I could no longer control my body to be sure, but I believed I had been changed into a woman wearing a silver dress. An occasional strand of hair flew in my face, it seemed pink.But I couldn’t control my own hands. My body seemed to have a mind of its own.

“Allow me to explain,” My body said, “I am from the future on a mission. I sent my nanites back to transform your body so I could accomplish it. Once I am complete, I will return control to you of this vessel.”

“Control? What about turning my body back to normal? I don’t want to be a woman! And how did no one notice all this?” I screamed as a voice in her head.“I’m afraid I needed my form to look like this for my mission, but the nanites lack to power for a second transformation once it is complete. This is your new form. Despite the crowd, people didn’t notice the change simply because they didn’t want to. People tend to ignore the out of place. This is to my benefit.Now you will sleep inside this form until I have finished.”

Eventually (Part 2)

Victoria explained to the university what had happened, which allowed Preston to still take all his classes. He kept quiet in those classes though, opting not to tell any of his classmates or friends who he really was; how could he even possibly explain it to them? He’d just take the train to school and back, asking Victoria at every possible moment he could if she had found a way to swap them back.

He absolutely hated being Victoria. He hated wearing her clothes. He hated the stares he got from men as he rode the train to class. He hated ‘monthly visitors’ as Victoria called them. He just wanted his body back. But it seemed like Victoria was never any closer to finding a solution to getting them back to normal.

The next day was filled with more of the same. Harvey kept telling Marc’s dad he needed just a little more time to recover, and Marc’s dad just kept on acting like a creep. Harvey continued to feel a little bad Marc if grew up with this sort of awful role model as a father. He only hoped he acted better when Marc was around, but he was quite doubtful that was the case.

Harvey ultimately decided not to try to enact any sort of revenge on Marc. He probably suffered enough with parents like these. And Harvey was pretty sure he suffered enough having to be in the body of Marc’s mom and dealing with Marc’s dad. Luckily, he only needed to hold the guy off a little bit longer, as he should be teleporting back to his own body while they slept tonight.
