It was early on Christmas morning when the children of the Dretch household went downstairs and were surprised to see an unknown woman sitting next to their tree. The kids woke up their parents, and the family went down cautiously.
“It’s okay,” The woman said, “I know this is weird, but it’s me. It’s Grandpa. I certainly didn’t expect a Christmas wish I made five decades ago to finally come true, but I guess it did. Before I met your grandmother -- God rest her soul -- I was a very different man. I often dreamed and wondered what it would be like to be a woman. I made a wish back then. It never came true back then, and I certainly didn’t expect it to do so today. But here we are. And I may be a woman and somehow young again, but I’m still your Grandpa; it’s still Christmas. Let’s celebrate.”
The rest of the family didn’t even know what to say.
